After showing great support to the football team last year and seeing how the kids reacted to the love, the Bouemai team wanted to keep supporting the athletic programs. With the help of the Head coach of the Girls Lacrosse Team, Coach Fern allowed Bouemai to sponsor them as well. Charles Stevens stated, “He was happy to support the girls as women sports are becoming bigger and bigger, being apart of a growing program and also being able to inspire the girls is major”. A week out before the season opener, The Bouemai Team came down to talk to the girls. Ariel Augustine, a member of Bouemai who played collegiate sports resonated with the girls about her journey balancing sports and school. She spoke about how she was one of the worst players on her team to play basketball and instead of believing what everyone was saying she continued to fight and wanted to prove to herself that she can learn how to play. With hard work and consistency by the time she was a sophomore in high school she started Varsity and became the captain of the team. By her junior year she was the MVP of the Mayfair girls basketball team and when she was a senior she was the MVP of the Suburban League. Ariel stated, “To be able to be in this room with these young ladies speaking about my journey and connecting with them is a full circle moment for me, we have to continue to empower our young women that we are capable of doing anything we put our mind to”. The Lakewood Lacrosse team season opener is February 21st against Mission Viejo at John Ford Stadium. We are excited to see the team get out and compete. GO WOOD !!!
